Rapid Test 7 1/2 Months After Exposure Negative. But Developed Full Body Water Rentention. Does This Mean HIV Can Be Ruled Out As Cause?t

Westland, MI

I had exposure unprotected sex on December 28th 2019. Since then I have had 4th generation test, RNA test negative at 6 months. Multispot test, 4th generation, HIV DNA pcr all negative at 7 months. I have had various symptoms headaches, rash, night sweats. Now i have water retention through out my body never had it before. Could HIV be the cause of the water retention. Even though the tests are negative after 7 1/2 months????????

HIV can hide in reservoirs for up to 10 years without having a positive test

When i was dignosed, i was told i had HIV for about 14 years. The test i had 2 years prior showed i was negative. So just because your test shows negative at 7½ months, really means nothing. If you feel you may have been exposed, you'll need to test for a minimum of 10 years.

According to the knowledge base, rapid antigen/antibody tests from a finger stick are considered reliable between 18 to 90 days after exposure. Therefore, a negative result at 7 1/2 months (approximately 225 days) is highly reliable for ruling out HIV.

However, if you have developed full-body water retention, it is important to consult a healthcare provider to determine the cause, as it may be related to other health conditions.
