Who Wants To Join A Zoom Chat?

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
Edmore, MI

I have March 2 (Saturday) to March 9 (Saturday) off. Who's up for a zoom chat during that time(s)?
Usually around 2pm Eastern North American time works best for people around the world. That's about 10pm for Eastern African nations, which still is not too late, and about 8 or 9 am for Hawaii.
Australians will have to get up very early around 2 to 4am.
Last Zoom I tried, something came up last minute and couldn't do it. Now I have an entire week to make something happen, and not just 1 day.

Thanks @A myHIVteam Member. Appreciate you taking the time to Zoom.

Ibuprofen, Kidney Problems And HIV.

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
Colorado Springs, CO

My most recent bloodwork indicates trouble with my kidneys. My Infectious Disease doc said this could be because i take a lot of ibuprofen for muscle pain and ibuprofen is bad for kidneys. He suggested I switch to Tylenol. Just wanted to share that in case it isn’t common knowledge. Thanks for reading. Summer has finally come to Colorado after chilly, rainy spring.

A myHIVteam Member

It absolutely is! I have not taken ibuprofen for 15 years. Some of the HIV meds, especially those that contained to TDF, also cause kidney damage, so both of those together is a double whammy on the… read more

After 24 Years' Use, Are HIV Meds Not Enough?

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
Ystalyfera, UK

A dear friend started taking HIV meds in 1998 but died in 2022, aged 70. In those 24 years he never missed a dose and he received the best possible medical care at all times. He ate healthily, took plenty of exercise, and was always positive-thinking and cheerful.

But from the start of 2021 he began to suffer from
- chronic all-over itching
- severe weakness and fatigue
- inflammations around his eye sockets
- unexplained constant swelling of his penis (when flaccid)
- chronic kidney… read more

HIV Disclosure To A Potential Sex Partner

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
Deerfield Beach, FL

I was talking to my therapist about HIV disclosure to potential sex partners and he told me about a organization that defends PLWH against prosecution
They have some good suggestions to help prove you disclosed your HIV status. But they admit it NO GUARANTEE even if you do everything correctly and tell your sex partners about your status that you won’t still be prosecuted
Here are some of the suggestions they gave on their websites:

Do You Think It's Time To See Straight Men In A Commercial For Hiv Treatment ?

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
North Hollywood, CA

In the last 20 years I have been hiv+, I've never seen a straight man portrayed in an hiv commercial. I have seen gay men , a trans woman , and african american women, but only 1 straight african man named "Earvin "Magic Johnson" or straight men and women.

How can we change that ?

We all talk about inclusivity, let's support that idea fully.

Best,
Cynthia.

A myHIVteam Member

I don’t see a reason why not other than there’s still the stigma that it’s considered a gay disease , when we all know that is the furthest thing from the truth.

Did You Receive A Caseworker Visit When You Were Diagnosed?

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
Cherryville, NC

About 2 weeks after being diagnosed (Dec. 2013), I received a call, at my office, on my desk line. It was a Caseworker and he stated he was in the parking lot and wanted to meet with me. I was not expecting anything like this. I quickly cleared my line and calendar and scheduled a conference room for his visit. I was taken back by some of his questions and somewhat accusations as well as, for lack of a better term, threats of punishment, if I wasn't completely honest with him. I answered… read more
