I was resistant to taking another pill, but the problem is real and the benefits of the drugs are real. In the past, I expected to die of AIDS, now I believe cardiovascular disease is my greatest threat. It has killed the vast majority of my family tree, so I’ll try to fight it, just as I have fought HIV.

Statins are drugs used to lower blood cholesterol levels and therefore reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. The risk of this is higher in people with HIV due to several factors: chronic inflammation HIV can cause chronic inflammation in the body, which can increase the risk of coronary heart disease. Lipid disorders Antiretroviral drugs can cause alterations in blood levels of cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood are common in people with HIV and can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease. Studies have shown that statins can reduce the risk of coronary heart disease in people with HIV. The risk reduction was independent of age, sex, and the presence of other cardiovascular risk factors.

Hey, Thanks for the post. According to my research, Yes, a daily statin can significantly reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in people living with HIV. The results of the REPRIEVE study, a major clinical trial, demonstrated important benefits:
Main results:
1.-A 35% reduction in the risk of major cardiovascular events in participants taking a daily statin compared to the placebo group.
2.-A 21% decrease in the combined risk of major cardiovascular events or premature death.
These benefits were observed after a median follow-up of 5.1 years.

Gracious Good Day. My doctor increased the dosage of Atorvastatin to 40 MG after reading that it helps elevates CD4 counts. My CD4 counts have been in the 250 area for a number of years. I have had a 40 point gain since starting. I believe it is in my next visit we are revisiting to see if the dosage should be increased again. Peace, Every Blessing be Yours and Those You Love.
