After 28 Years Of No Health Issues

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
Borger, TX

After 28 years of no health issues last week I became dehydrated and fell hitting my knee. I got a severe infection in my right knee. Went to hospital was also diagnosed with CHF, and pneumonia. I am very afraid right now. I am still undetectable my cd4 is 300.
What are some things that I can do to improve my health? They did a wash out on my knee but now the infection is back.

It sounds like you might be referring to someone who has been living with HIV for a long time without health issues. As people with HIV age, they may become more susceptible to certain comorbidities. Here are five health problems to watch for as you age with HIV:

1. Metabolic Syndrome and Cardiovascular Disease: Higher prevalence of metabolic dysfunction, which can increase the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
2. Liver Disease: Commonly due to coinfection with hepatitis B or C.
3. Chronic Conditions: Higher likelihood of diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke, lung diseases, and dementia.
4. Comorbidities: Increased risk of developing comorbidities compared to the general population.
5. Regular Follow-ups: Essential to continue antiretroviral treatment and have regular follow-up visits with your HIV care team.

It's important to communicate with your healthcare provider about preventing future comorbidities and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
