What Do You Expect From Your Case Manager Or HIV Agency?
As we apply for Ryan White funding, housing, preventive care, food stamps,.. Etc, ...what do you expect from the person who administers the paperwork for your case?
I wanted to ask this question because many of us have stories about bad case managers or doctors or situations with their files and certifications and so forth. I personally had an incident lately where my case worker did not go over my file prior to meeting me for my certification with adap of Illinois. She did not know my medications, she did not know my doctor , she did not know anything about me and it was offensive that funding goes to her agency and she doesn't take the time out to get to know me as a client. So I am looking to replace her. I firmly believe that if you are qualified for services from these agencies who get paid to have you as a client,...
they should treat you with the utmost respect and quality of care you deserve.
I'm having the same issues here in Colorado. I had to reveal my HIV status and join the Denver HIV Resources Planning Council to see what was going on and it's terrifying. Too many social services type people and few with real-world hard skills. It's even more disturbing how many of these people aren't HIV positive. There is still this government worker mentality that they know best. I'm glad you brought this up. I'm going to bring this up again every meeting I have. We need to take this power back from non-HIV people.

I havnt had a case manager in years , but had problems with them when I did ! One never turned in my paperwork to apply for Medicaid also was telling people about my hiv status! She didn’t last long ……! Another took me off Medicaid because she said paying my mother to meet spenddown cost didn’t count ! I was paying my mother cause I was to ill to do things on my own ! Also had a problem last month when the lady who pays my BlueCross insurance went on vacation and didn’t pay the bill ! Had to let BlueCross know what was going on , All is cool for now Amen!
