What One Memory Inspires You To Continue This Fight?

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

Sometimes events in our lives manage, direct and/or steer us to another path or simply promote an awareness in us, like no other.
Do you have one particular event or memory that always resonates with you?

I think the memory in my life that changed the page from self-destructive behavior and a loveless soul to a full-hearted faithful and happy HIV positive gay man was when I found myself sleeping on a floor in a closet of someone that I had just met waiting for my apartment to be finished as the roaches crawled over me and I remember asking God that I would do everything in my power to please him so that I would never ever have to be in a situation like that again. That was 20 years ago.🙏❤️

It's funny how what appears to be the most disastrous of times at the moment ends up being a gift at the end.

Wasn't exactly sure I understood the question at first. After reading the first 2 responses, clearly I have not yet reached my rock bottom.

One memory that inspires many to continue the fight against HIV is shared in the "Member Spotlight: There Is Life With HIV, and I Am Proof" article. The author describes a pivotal moment when they realized the need to get clean after feeling guilt over their reaction to a friend's death. This guilt became a powerful motivator to change their life, leading them to rehab and eventually achieving an undetectable status. Today, they are married, have a good driving record, and are helping to rebuild their town after the 2018 Camp Fire in California. This transformation and the gratitude they feel for their new life serve as a constant reminder of the importance of staying clean and healthy.

I had an ID doctor, he was awesome, would inspire me to do the right things with my treatment. He would always take my hand and pray with me at the end of my appointment. Sadly, he passed away a few years ago. He was biking and fell into the path of an SUV.
