Do You Participate In HIV/AIDS Community Programs? Volunteer, Peer Support, Committees, Overseer Boards? How'd You Get Started?

I am looking to give back to my HIV/AIDS community, because I see so many of us, trying to find a hand held out to us, for sympathy, comfort, education, understanding and acceptance. So I ask how many of us, provide assistance, in any way we can, how we got started and how has it helped us handle their own positive status?

"Remember... only YOU can prevent HIV transmission" (said in Smokey Bears voice) 🤓 nerdy I know, but it made me laugh when I said it out loud. 😎

Hey Luis and Brooke!
Thank you for your replies, is there any information you can provide, to connect with these groups, I know I struggle to locate and understand how I can apply to help myself. Specific contacts, websites, or instructions?

Brooke, you seem to be a very busy person in the community, can you tell us, how did you find yourself connecting with so many ways to give back?

Maybe look into your local Ryan White Planning Council, I'm an HIV Peer Educator in a hospital ID Clinic, I'm also an HIV blogger for HIV.NET, an active member of an HIV Caucus Committee. I am on a CAG Community Action Group with The American Academy of HIV Medicine. I am the Missouri Co-Chair of Positive Women's Network as well as a Zoom Administrator for Pillow Talk (An HIV Zoom weekly support group). There are tons of places to get involved, educate and give back to the positive community.

The AIDS foundations in every city and state across the country usually post positions on their various boards for people with HIV to apply. It does require time and effort though. There's boards such as the community advisory boards better known as CAB.... call your local AIDS foundation for more information. 👍🌈👋♥️

I am a focal point for REDCA+ in Nicaragua, I also lead a support group called "New Life" I generally like to give emotional support, provide hospital accompaniment and home visits, I do it voluntarily so the expenses of my visits are covered by myself in our support groups we collaborate each one here we practice a lot of solidarity among ourselves, you know I bring cookies, another the juices the important thing is to share and encourage each other here many organizations have closed organizations that previously supported us with food, donations, etc. but we continue forward, there is no greater reward than helping others 🫶
