No More Meds

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

Is there anyone else here who has stopped taking meds? I used to and no longer do? I don't care for them anymore. Has anyone else done this as well

Yes, My late friend stopped taking his HIV meds and within several months he had died because the virus overtook his entire system. He stopped because he was tired of taking the meds every day. Bad and stupid choice. Don't do it.

Im very sorry to hear this Jonathan. Its very very important to resume treatment, as the HIV virus is a very very vicious and cruel virus can attack the Brain if treatment is stopped. The virus attacked my Brain before I started treatment and caused terrible problems and pain beyond belief. I have been on treatment for 28 years without interruptions, as I have experienced first hand what this virus is capable of doing to the human body.
Tell us why exactly you want to stop?
Is there a particular reason?

If pill(s) are an issue have you discussed moving to injections? I would HIGHLY recommend you re-evaluate this choice

I'm so sorry for the weight you have been given to cope with. I have been on and off meds so many times I can't count. I don't think we should ever give up, but I don't think we will see any better life than this awfulness. The powers that be they force us to live like we do. And yes it's from the Pretender's, but it's true. When I want to give up, I force myself to watch a documentary or two about the ones before us that didn't have the choice and it usually gets me back on the medication. Oh, no that's not advice to you I'm not suggesting that for you or anyone else. You need to do what you need to do for yourself. I've never written a comment on here, but I wanted to let you know that you're not alone and you're going to be in my thoughts for a while. And if you have to escape reality for a a bit, then enjoy it.

You know, I don't think anyone asked you, what's making you tired of them? how do you feel when you take them every day? Do you have any in-person support? What are your plans for when the virus becomes detectable again? Will you maintain an emergency blood spill bag? Will you go celibate till the rest of your life? Most importantly, do you think you'll feel better, knowing every day you are risking transmission to a numerous people, who won't have a say in contracting HIV due to you stopping your treatment?

I HATE taking my pill everyday, a friend suggested though that I thank my pill and my body when I took it. Thank it for fighting for you, for being resilient in the face of overwhelming odds, for allowing you to live and experience another day for good or ill, and to reaffirm that the next day, you will hold onto the strength of your body to take that pill again.
