What Is The Difference Between HIV Vs AIDS?
HIV and AIDS are related, but they’re not the same
HIV is a virus. It may cause AIDS after you’ve been infected for several years and it’s weakened your immune system. Not everyone who has HIV will get AIDS. But the infection will advance to AIDS, usually in 10 to 15 years, if you don’t get treatment with antiretroviral drugs.
Many people with the virus don’t know they have it. Of the nearly 1.3 million people in the U.S. who have HIV, more than 160,000 haven’t been diagnosed and aren’t… read more
At brad3 I asked my dr about that years ago. We use "chronic hiv." U=U is a good thing. But I'm the type of person that wants to see the results until I can trust ur word or u can get this condom. Most people wouldn't believe u if u said u was negative and same rule should apply to anyone. Until u trust them
@A myHIVteam Member once you're diagnosed with AIDS, you'll always be considered as AIDS, even if your CD4 goes back over 200. At least that's what the health department and my doctor told me. So if you're on record of having AIDS, that won't change. The difference between HIV and AIDS is the CD4 count.
Exactly that’s what I keep saying on here U=U sounds good on a commercial but this is the real world. As long as you take your arvs faithfully and never miss a dose. We are using U=U as some sort of unrealistic scenario which makes people feel better. When my doctor says I’m undetectable I know I’m good I don’t need a public service announcement from the government trying to control us. However if someone thinks U=U is a great thing more power to you but don’t shove it down my face
@A myHIVteam Member. It means something to people in treatment who are undetectable and enjoying sex with their seronegative partners!
Reaching those who are still actively engaging in risky behavior, many intertwined with substance abuse and / or secrecy & shame, is a much more difficult problem. It also puts the partners of those people at risk.
Still, this does not diminish the success of those in treatment. "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good." 👍
