Today, January 29, 2025, marks the first day of the Chinese New Year, welcoming the Year of the Wood Snake. Beginning at 4:36 a.m. PT with the new moon in Aquarius, this significant holiday represents the start of the Lunar New Year and Spring Festival. The Year of the Wood Snake combines the heavenly stem 'Yi' (Yin Wood) with the earthly branch 'Si' (Snake), promising a year of transformation and new beginnings. This first day is traditionally dedicated to family visits, gift-giving, and ancestral remembrance. As the most important celebration in Chinese culture, it marks the transition from winter to spring and initiates a 15-day festival period that concludes with the Lantern Festival on February 12, 2025. The day symbolizes fresh starts, renewal, and the beginning of a prosperous new cycle in the lunisolar calendar.

Our grand nephew, who is half Chinese, was born yesterday, on the lunar new year. While I’m not knowledgeable, or even a believer, it seems to be considered a lucky and positive sign.
