Meth And HIV

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
New Brunswick, NJ

Well as many of you know I had my Vegas experience in October and did meth. I thought it was pot because both can be in a bong. Stupid me trusting someone from Vegas lol. However just got my latest blood tests and not much changed so I’m assuming my one time and last time meth encounter didn’t affect my blood work.however I experienced tingling in my head after the meth encounter. Doctor gave me a MRI. Results stated moderate white matter in the brain. I have to go to a neurologist which takes 4… read more

Jim thanks as always appreciate your concern and your optimism. And yes getting older sucks not that I’m grateful I got hiv at 59 but I rather get HIV at 59 then in my twenties or thirties. I can’t imagine taking these pills for 40 years or more . Plus getting it in 2023 progress is getting better and better. In fact my ID doctor told me in 2025 or 2026 we are looking at 1 pill a week instead of everyday . He says hes amazed at the progress that HIV is making in our lives. While he says a cure is not possible in his mind at this time the newer generation drugs are much safer and more drug classes are coming out as we speak .

I think you'll be fine my friend. See if you can get an earlier appointment and check around to see if your insurance will cover another neurologist. It's best to get that MRI sooner than later.
Good luck Brad🍀🤞🌈🤞😊

Good Morning.
Brad 3. It's been a while since I've been on. The site and I just read your story. You made a mistake, my friend.
There was no damage done.
Just means you're human. We all make mistakes if I worried about. All the mistakes I've made in the past 60 years and the people that I've hurt which there are many. I'd be more depressed than I am now. So like Jim said, if we can forgive you, then you can forgive you. Just because?
We're getting older does not mean we can't make mistakes, so don't be so tough on yourself. Kid you, do great things and you're a great guy.
So show yourself some grace. I only did meth one time. I experimented with a lot of drugs.
However, my drug a choice was alcohol. Thank God I've been clean for 8 years.
I have had slip-ups. But my therapist tells me that may happen every once in a while. The triggers will take over
I just have to remind myself of the days when I was drinking. And the bad memories that go along with them. As Jim said as we get older, other health conditions do appear.
I mean, I've been living with neuropathy for years.
Now it's gotten to a point where it actually affects my daily routine.
However, I am doing CET treatmeant, which means with electric shock to the nerves in my feet. Then it helps me walk.
So the first time in 3 years I can actually walk with no pain. I've also developed diverticulitis Which is in the large intestines? I've been depressed and bipolar for years.
And now diabetes is on the sunset. Enough about me though.
Don't worry about the mistake. Mistakes are lives learning lessons just take care of yourself.Buddy have a great day

@A myHIVteam Member OK, not only HIV but other crap right? You're in the neighborhood of 60; and this is your entry to "that time of life". HIV is probably to your/our benefit at this point. Our docs are looking more closely for weird shit because as we age.
It is now when more; um; shall we say, interesting things start to appear. Our prostates enlarge. There is a strong chance at 70's we'll have prostate cancer. A-fib begins to show up. For some stupid shit is going to appear in arteries. We're mortal my brother. Grateful we're on each others team.

Your doc did say "aging or MS". One of those is true for certain. Thankfully, we're still aging. :-)

If you're beating yourself up over your unintentional adventure; if I can forgive you can you? (BTW from my POV no forgiveness needed). I am so delighted that your numbers are pretty much as they are usually. We're pretty resilient despite our ungodly high mileage. :-)

Rob like I said I did it once unintentionally and have no interest in ever doing it again. Plus my numbers are fine my cd 4 count actually is better 684 and my viral load is 20 which my doctor says is technically undetectable I appreciate your concern however I learned my lesson and it was just once
