I work in an ID clinic and was on Biktarvy for less than a month, after noticing weight gain almost immediately I changed meds and am now on Dovato. I was on Genvoya for 8-10 years with no weight gain. Ask your Dr to switch your meds its a known side effect from Biktarvy.

I had the same problem. Finally making great progress to remove the weight using the carnivore diet. Lost 33 pounds and at least another 20 to go. protein fills you up quickly . When I do eat vegetables, I just switch over to Atkins minimal carbohydrates.

Thanks for the info. I was on Atripla for over a decade and didn't gain weight. I will talk to my doc next visit.

I gained 50 lbs when I started on Biktarvy. After being on it for a year it leveled off. Now it is easier to control and I have lost some of that weight. If the medication is working, that is the main thing. The weight can come off.

Weight gain after starting antiretroviral therapy (ART) like Biktarvy is a common experience for many people living with HIV. Here are some key points from my knowledge base:

- Common Experience: Many people report weight gain after starting HIV medications. For instance, one member shared gaining weight from 170 to 235 pounds after starting HIV meds and antidepressants.
- Research Findings: Studies have shown that people with HIV taking ART drugs gain weight faster than HIV-negative individuals of the same age.
- Possible Causes: The exact reasons for weight gain with certain HIV medications are not entirely understood. It may be related to immune system changes due to HIV or specific side effects of the medications.
- Managing Weight Gain: It's important to talk to your doctor about your concerns. They can help you develop a plan to manage your weight, which might include dietary changes, exercise, or possibly adjusting your medication regimen.

If you're concerned about your weight gain, discussing it with your healthcare provider is a crucial step.
