President Trump And HIV Care

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

I'm hoping President Trump lives up to his promise of bringing peace to Ukraine and the Middle East, as these two Wars are very very costly to the US Taxpayer, since each Rocket fired can cost millions of dollars, however I'm wondering how his Presidency will affect HIV Care in the US? I have friends in Orlando and Nashville whose health care was not affected during Trump's last term. Perhaps you guys and girls could clarify the HIV health care issue and why some people are not affected and… read more

Hi Mark. This is a very sensitive topic right now for a lot of us here in the US. As far as our HIV care is concerned here in the states we have several social service programs that cover all our drugs and doctors visit. My concern is that this new administration will cut back on a lot of these services without supplementing the cost elsewhere. Right now approximately 1.7 billion is allocated to these funds and during the first Trump administration it was not touched but with Elon musk aboard I'm not sure if that will be the case this time. All we can do is save up our pennies for rainy day. 🌈🌈🌈🇺🇸👍

Trump has always been difficult to predict. I suspect this will only get worse. But honestly none of us knows what's going to happen and there are a ton of questions.

I work in an ID clinic and we are hoping he doesn't do anything to cut funding for HIV patients to get meds and medical care. If he does away with Obama Care people with pre existing conditions won't be eligible for medical insurance, if we are it will be too expensive for most of us to cover. A hand full of red states just passed their own abortion laws with the flick of a Sharpe Trump can remove all of those rights.

Unfortunately Mark in the past administrations including under the Trump administration immigrants continued to migrate into the US. With the new administration they claim to want to target those immigrants who are pending waiting status who just crossed over and are being vetted. There are millions of these immigrants who are waiting pending status in the United States including those who have lived here and have families. He is claiming to want to remove these people from the United States. I am not friendly with this idea. It will cause havoc and civil uproar if it's implemented.

Listen I get it. You’re upset the person we were going for didn’t win. Did you watch her closing speech the battles not over but we need to stop fighting each other. We’re all Americans and we should be trying to create unity instead of division, especially here in our HIV community, Hatred has no place here.
