If You Could Create A TED Talk About Your Experience With HIV, What Would It Be About?

I am yet to figure this question out yet but it would be something on the theme of “Ive learned that living with HIV is not just a diagnosis; its also an inner journey” How about you?

@A myHIVteam Member. Was there someone you would have listened to before you became infected that could have changed the picture for you? I knew about HIV/AIDS. I was in healthcare, and I read every scrap of information available on HIV/AIDS. I didn't internalize it until I myself became infected. It wasn't real to me before that. It got REAL in a hurry!❤️

Paul I agree sometimes we are just human beings who think this can’t happen to me. However I never went out of my way looking for it either like some people do 🙄

Wow, that's a great question! If I were to do a TED talk about my experience, it would be about my continued mental and emotional roller coaster ride, disclosure, and finding true support systems. A lot of negative people don't understand not only the physical aspect of HIV but the mental and emotional parts. I feel that if people knew my story, they would understand and be more likely to protect themselves..

It’s definitely an inner journey. I kept gambling which is in my DNA I’m always taking risks. I can’t believe that I thought I was above getting infected. Can’t believe it took 25 years of being an idiot and playing around to get to this point. I assumed HIV was hard to get now cause everyone was on meds or practicing safe sex. The fool I became. It’s only been 14 months since I got infected but a day does not go by where I’m not being reminded of what is now done. I respect those who have been living with this for 15,20 or longer years.dont know how you do it. I guess my only saving grace I got HIV at 58 so my once a day pill days are going to be shorter. 20 years I will be 78 that’s past average life expectancy. I still hope that science makes it easier for me and others . I will be the first in line to take a once every six month injection to combat HIV. They say it’s around the corner but that corner could be long.in the end I need to stop dwelling on the what ifs and dwell on living a semi normal life . Somedays thats easier said then done
