Hi Everyone, I Was Wondering If I Could Get Some Helpful Information About HIV Treatment Accessibility And Cost As Someone Moving From EU.

I have had the best experience when it comes to treatment accessibility and affordability; my drugs are covered by my obligatory health insurance.

My health status is like a sworn secret that the next doctor in the same hospital doesn’t have access to my database except I grant permission.

Also, my workplace has no right to ask for my HIV status as it is a protected data on personal data protection law.

I am Planning of moving to the USA for a PHD program, but scared about the uncertainties… read more

The first thing I would do is search for an aids service organization around the area you plan to move.
Here in the USA, unlike many people think, or they think they know, but don't, workplaces can ask for HIV status AND work places can share that status if they want to. Many people believe the HIPAA law forbids them. That is not true. HIPAA only applies to medical professionals, hospitals, clinics, and insurance agents.
Although it is legal for workplaces to share your information, they can be sued under HIV confidentiality laws if you specifically told them not to share the information, and you will need proof that you told them in confidence.

- Affordability: Only 35% feel that HIV treatment is affordable.

- Staying on Treatment: Nearly all respondents (95%) reported being able to stay on their medications.

- Support Programs: Programs like the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP) provide medications to low-income people living with HIV who have limited or no health insurance. ADAP also offers grants to help purchase health insurance.

- Nonprofit Assistance: Nonprofits may provide additional financial help and resources. Local health centers and public health centers offer HIV care regardless of immigration status or ability to pay.

- Pharmaceutical Assistance: Many pharmaceutical companies offer patient assistance programs (PAPs) to help cover the cost of HIV medications.

If you need more specific information or assistance, local health centers and nonprofits can be valuable resources.
