HIV,monkey pox all of these diseases always seem to start in Africa and affects the straight population in these areas. However as it spreads to the USA and other developed countries it mainly becomes a problem with effecting the gay population. Yes I know straight people get these diseases but if you look at the numbers it’s mostly gay people who these diseases affect the most.is it because of anal sex? Or gay’s seem to have more sex partners? I don’t have an answer anyone out there have an… read more

During the mpox outbreak I heard a public health official address this question on TV.
Being that around 3 percent of the male population is gay or bi, that makes for a very small pool of available sex partners, so once a virus is introduced into the gay population, it can spread very quickly.

@A myHIVteam Member. I think it's just that the diseases affecting the gay community are the ones that catch our attention, and for good reason. How many articles do you read about diseases that don't affect the people you love(?)

That's one of those difficult conversations that no one wants to have. Like luisgabriel said, Sex is a big part of the gay community. Then there's the politics of the community. No one wants to run the risk of saying what needs to be said when it needs to be said for the fear of backlash. We're not even on the same page with disclosure. Let's be honest. Fighting stigma and fighting disease are not the same thing, as much as we try to blend them,

@A myHIVteam Member. It's numbers. Men tend to have more sexual partners them other demographics. It's alot easier for a gay man to hookup than it is for a straight man. And gay men don't deal with the sexual politics that straight men have to deal with. I disagree with the straight men and monkey pox. Monkey pox is visual. It'll tell what part of your body monkey pox touched. Remember the girl with monkey pox all over her mouth. In my head, the gay community wasn't as forth coming about monkey pox as they should have been due to fear of stigmatizing homosexuality. Meanwhile people were screaming in pain trying to use the bathroom as a result of monkey pox.

Paulm63 I agree however I’m pretty sure most straight people aren’t concerned about monkey pox and the CDC says actively sexual gay people should get the vaccine dosent say anything about actively sexually straight people . So it’s either gay men are running rampant having sex with multiple people I’m not in that group lol. Or is it genetic or a mystery abound
