Viral Suppression At 65%

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

The latest CDC numbers state that only 65% of people on antivirals are undetectable. That percentage seems rather low considering that the three main drugs biktarvy, dovato, and cabunuva are first class drugs.I believe these stats are for USA infections . Anybody have an opinion on these numbers?

I would agree. Getting to and staying undectable is a treatment goal. Not a guarantee.

I don't want to be a downer, But the only safe sex is when you're alone. However, there are safer sex techniques. Not cumming in your partner w/condom or wo/condom while U=U is safer than sharing your load. When discussing sex and HIV, there is no 100% protection. There's layers of safer practices, some are easy, some are complicated. U=U seems easy but it takes complicated actions and determination to achieve. So if you're there, be grateful for your success and the life you earned. I live alone but still want to share my life with someone. Every morning when I wake up, I appreciate that I have another day to keep looking.

I guess I am the odd duck in this situation.
I say that because almost as soon as I went on meds my viral load declined but the side effects of THOSE meds were worse than worrying about how long I had to live
After the second round of meds was introduced to my person my viral began a slow decline and at one point went undetectable and even tho I made the requests to have my meds changed 2 times thereafter and my id PCP suggested Dovato I was kind of leery until I had the time to commit my own research on the med before the next checkup .

Then the next checkup arrived and she and I discussed Dovato and since there were little to no side effects and could be taken with or without food when I left the.building I left with a months supply until Current farmacy could get my scripts updated for the prepacked by time Pouches into production with the new med included and the old one omitted .
So we'll as the story goes was 10 plus years ago and .y viral load has been undetectable since 2002 :) .

8:55am . Very day , on the dot , with the exception of when we turn the clocks forward or back. It’s crazy that my body is even becoming aware of when it’s time to take THAT pill. I did learn from my last bloodwork ( this past Monday ) how much stress affects those numbers . My viral load went to 30 , while my C 4 has remained consistent ( 648 ) . I’m not freaking out about it. But It did make me take a step back to reassess my day to day and acknowledge that I need rid myself of stressful situations. I also need to seek out out professional help when it comes to dealing with not only stress, but depression as well. That being said , those numbers could be possible. Sexual activity isn’t the only thing that drives those numbers up and down. I’m beginning to understand there are other factors.

I am totally compliant. My Dr.'s love me. I have been Undetectable for 15 years now. I don't seem to have problems remembering to take my pill every day. For me it's working. Actually, after 34 years of alcohol and drug addiction (I'm sober now almost), I'm healthier than I have a right to be! When I think of all those years looking at the world from inside a bottle. I must have good genes. I do think the 65% is, surprisingly, low but there are so many factors. I've been down that road and remember sometimes I just wanted my next drink or drug! I wasn't always compliant either.
