Why Would ADAP Drop Me Because Of Having My Regular Insurance ADAP Is My Secondary.

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
Spring Hill, FL

of February 29th ADAP dropped me because they don't apparently work with my insurance which is ambetter. Why would that matter? My insurance until I meet my out of pocket is $70 I am not working because I'm fighting for disability. My mother helps me. Idk if I am doing this correctly hopefully someone can help me. Thank you.

According to Florida ADAP requirements, to have ADAP, you have to be uninsured. Which sucks because here in Michigan I can have insurance AND ADAP.

I emailed my caseworker as soon as I got the call from CVS specialty pharmacy she told me she thinks it's because adap doesn't work with ambetter which doesn't make sense. Unfortunately nobody has reached back out to me. I did get my meds with no charge however I do owe $15 and they ran it through my ambetter insurance because I go into my account online and I can see everything like my explanation of benefits and stuff like that.

You should be calling or emailing your medical case manager and asking them. Maybe there was a mistake in the paperwork. I would start there to see what the issue is, then if that doesn't pan out, call adap.

I just think it's ridiculous how Florida has its own laws and regulations. I don't even understand why I was offered adap as secondary and then take it from me? I was using Walgreens for the biktarvy but they wanted $70 that's when I got the adap because I couldn't afford that they moved that medication to CVS specialty I got it covered thru adap and now since it cancelled me out as of February 29th they want to charge me $15 at CVS specialty which is fine but I'm depending on another person to help and support me. Like I said I have insurance since being the new year I have an out of pocket to be met which is 1800 and when that gets met they cover all expenses Im only down to like 1789 or something close to that.
