Hiv And Hepatitis C
The person who infected me was a drug user also. So far it’s been 7 months since diagnosis I have hiv but so far I’ve been hep c negative. My doctor said 6 months after possible infection if I test negative for hep c I’m in the clear anyone concur with that. Also I heard hep c and hiv don’t play well together but I heard hep c can be cured?
Yes Brad, you are correct! Hep C can be cured as mine has been with Harvoni. Any condition/sickness can have an impact on HIV
I know there’s no vaccine but I’ve read there’s a cure?actually I just read your link there is a cure for hep c thanks
Hi Brad3. There's no vaccine for HepC. However, review this link about treatment: https://www.cdc.gov/vitalsigns/hepc-treatment/i...
I have to check if my doctor checks for hepatitis a and b I know he checks hep c
@A myHIVteam Member. There's confusion about long term viral infections that fly below the radar causing damage not known by those infected.
Although the infected may not be aware of their infection, that doesn't mean there is no evidence of infection. Like HIV, Hep C produces antibodies within weeks/months as the body's immune system fights the virus. You would test positive for the virus.
Viral loads can be measured, and tend to be greater than those of HIV, because Hep C resides primarily in the blood, while HIV is predominantly in the lymph system. A positive antibody test with no viral load means the immune system has cleared the virus.
The antiviral drugs for Hep C are much like those for HIV, but can successfully clear Hep C from the body in 6-12months of treatment.
I got Hep C in 1986, the year before I got HIV, through IVDU. It was not named until 1993, so at that time it was a non A, non B viral hepatitis (D & E also exist).
I got sick, but was over it in a week to 10 days. I am Hep C antibody positive, but have no viral load. I was fortunate my immune system cleared the virus.
Before viral loads were available, chronically elevated liver enzymes were an indication that the liver was under attack. Mine were not elevated once the acute phase of the infection was over.
