Antiviral Causes Mutation In Covid Virus
This should come as no surprise to anyone with HIV. Covid-19 coronavirus is highly mutagenic (like HIV). The use of a single antiviral causes the Covid-19 virus to mutate towards resistance.

@A myHIVteam Member. This is just the learning curve for a new virus. Prior to HIV, there were very few antiviral drugs (acyclovir). Now, we have a wealth of antiviral drugs with no end in sight (unlike antibiotics which are dwindling). We just need to learn how best to use them with Covid, like we have with HIV. It took almost two decades to get there with HIV. Covid has only been around since 2019, not even 5 years! We are moving at record pace, buddy. No worries. 👍
One more thing to concern ourselves with. As if we didn’t have enough already.
@A myHIVteam Member. I was just drawing a comparison in the treatment of HIV and Covid. Early on with HIV it was determined that a single antiviral would soon lose its effectiveness as HIV would mutate around it. Single antiviral treatment of Covid may be producing the same result. The answer for HIV was the "cocktail", the use of more than one antiviral where HIV could not beat them all. That may be what is needed in the treatment of Covid, avoiding the mutational escape of these viruses.
Thanks. I did not know that. I've been wondering about HIV antivirals and covid-19. I took Paxlovid the last time I had covid-19 (4 times already) and it made me feel very sick. I wondered about the interaction with my HIV meds. I hope this doesn't make us more vulnerable. Thinking positively.
Uggg more issues for us. 🥺
Someone Please Give Me An Answer. I Have Never Had Any Symptoms Of HIV Even Though I Know I Have The Infection. I Still Take My Treatment.
