Numb Wave?

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭
Nesquehoning, PA

So for a few years now. Ive been getting random waves of numbness in my hands. It starts at my thumb and passes over my hand from a few minutes to hours.

Whats going on? Anyone else experience this? I do have some nerve damage.

It can affect multiple sensory and motor nerves in distal parts of the limbs and cause HIV polyneuropathy (also called distal symmetric polyneuropathy). Sometimes, polyneuropathy is due to a group of anti-HIV medications and is called antiretroviral toxic neuropathy. HIV-induced peripheral neuropathy causes damage to nerves within the peripheral nervous system. Symptoms include pain or abnormal sensations, typically in the feet or hands, along with other parts of the body. Additionally, common symptoms include numbness or tingling.

I had painful burning sensations in both underarms and have been experiencing stabbing pains and numbness in both hands. I'm so scared. Two Doctors told me it's psychosomatic but a neurologist told me HIV can cause it, as described in numerous scientific studies. I am very nervous. I'll be in a hospital in midmarch for a neurological investigation.
How is it going for you at present? 😌

I experience numbness in both arms and legs. It has been so bad at times, I can’t drive. Some days are great, while others are terrible. It’s been over 15 years since I started experiencing it that most of the time I don’t even realize I’m compensating for it automatically.
