Who Is Afraid Of Falling?
I fell two years ago. Crushed a space heater! Hurt myself. Down for a week.
I am certainly cautious. My last BIG fall was on ice and put me in PT for weeks. I'm taking some CJE online classes through the GMHC of NY. Also some through Silver Sneakers. Thru the winter they really help me to retrain my body to avoid falls and keep balanced on my feet. I think it is different for everyone but most important to stay upright as we age.
I remember bounding down stairs and now can't fathom how I was able to do that both physically and mentally.
When I came off life support, I had lost around 1/2 my weight, my weight was in the 85 lb range, and I had to relearn how to walk with physical therapy over the course of several months. Over the next year I started hiking to both pick up my cardio, leg strength, and balance... It was so hard at first, but over time I was able to become much more competent.
A hike that took me 3-4 hours at first is now a quick 30-40 minute walk, but I still have no confidence on steep downhills and stairs. Even in my own house, I hold onto the handrail every time.... is it in my head? Partially, but I know my balance isn't what it was before I was hospitalized with full blown AIDS
Plus I couldn't reach my towel and made a fireman turn red trying to peek instead of handing me my towel. Hmmph oh he remembers me!
CookieCrunch, 12 hours in the tub ? That's the worst!
Ouch
