What Will Happen If I Skip Dosage Cause My Healthcare Provider Ran Out Of Biktarvy?

A myHIVteam Member asked a question 💭

My healthcare provider run out of my medication and it has been 2 days since my last Biktarvy pill intake. My anxiety is at a high for I never miss a day without taking my medication. Is it okay to go a week without medication? My CD4 count is good, I haven’t shown any server symptoms and I am taking B12 vitamin s but I am still anxious. How long can I stay healthy and energized without taking my pills?

Great answers everyone, but what may sound simple to us, might not be as simple in the country of Bahrain where @A myHIVteam Member is from. Hopefully all of your ideas can help.

I do not know what country you are in but in most places we get a script and can fill it before running out and build up a reserve so this doesn't happen. Mine are filled every 28 days so now I have an extra month+ supply on hand. The new medicines remain effective longer but missing more than a day or so is not recommended. They are studies of where some are taking medicine only every other day, others my be able to give you the site to read. This is not medical advice, just my thoughts.

Hi @A myHIVteam Member I’m fairly new to the whole HIV thing myself. I’m sure others here with more medical experience can provide a more detail answer but here is my take :
Over the last 14 months I’ve probably missed two or three doses total . Not all at one time but over the course of that period.
You’re not going to get sick or feel any different in the short term is my understanding. The danger with not taking your medicine daily is the virus can grow enough to mutate so that eventually the medicine MAY not be effective anymore against the virus you have and They will have to find another med for you.
I’ve spoken to a number of guys who told me they’ve missed their medicine as much as three days in a row on numerous occasions and never had any problems with the viral load when it was check the next time.
Having said that it’s unacceptable for a pharmacy to expect you wait a week for your meds. You should contact your doctor office and see if they can get from somewhere else or get you samples from drug company etc.
a week is too long in my opinion.
I personally would raise some holy hell. This is not a disease where you can go a week without your medicine.
Good Luck
Tom
